The postmodern portrait has often referenced the past, often directly quoting from specific paintings. It utilizes history, whether to find a non-time, or should I say a way of constructing a space, where the time in a portrait is an illusion, often undermining what we initially see, “Temporal inadequacy which in time creates an in time breach that introduces a disruption”. (Sardo 2008, 33)
